Raw oil obtained from expeller pressing the dried organic coconuts (copra), is sent through the high-tech physical refinery to obtain Refined, Bleached and Deodorised (RBD) coconut oil.
The physical refining process which uses zero chemicals, ensures the removal of the unhealthy free fatty acids, high colour particles, aroma, unwanted impurities and the moisture, to guarantee a prolonged shelf life.
The Refined, Bleached and Deodorised (RBD) coconut oil is regarded as a perfect cooking ingredient due to its high smoke point of 450°F, and because its rich with healthy medium chained fatty acids.

RBD coconut oil is regarded as the best for cooking by many around the world for several reasons. First one being, the oil having a very high smoke point of around 450 Celsius, so no matter how heated your oil pan is, it wont be a problem for the oil to withstand. Second, it has absolutely no odour as the deodorization part of refining process removes all the odor particles, so that your food cooked with coconut oil won’t have any foreign taste that you wont like. Lastly and most importantly, RBD coconut oil is rich in MCFA or Medium Chained Fatty Acids, unlike other famous cooking oils. MCFA is easily digested and does not create any uneasiness in your stomach after a meal, whereas it may be the opposite with oils with longer chain fatty acids like Olive, Palm and Sunflower.
There are two methods used to refine edible oil, chemical method and physical method. The main contrast between the processes is that chemical refining uses NaOH (Caustic Soda) to remove free fatty acids in oil, while physical refining uses a distillation method (with high temperatures under vacuum) to neutralise oil. Physical refining increases the yield of neutral oil without any chemical use and more importantly, it is considered as the environmentally sustainable method. We at SMR practices physical refining of oil.
Yes. SMR’s RBD Coconut Oil is 100% Organic Certified from Control Union Certifications for USDA, EU and JAS Organic schemes. In fact, our refinery is the first in Sri Lanka to get audited and certified as organic. And the company gets audited annually for these certifications for continual. Also, we are providing transaction certificates for each batch/shipment. And if you are in EU countries, we are providing traces, so the interested parties can track down the products to its origins.
Yes, you can. Manufacturing facilities at SMR can provide the products under private labels exactly as you desire. Our merchandizers and supply chain have years of experience in designing and printing labels, cartons etc. as per customer needs. Feel free to contact our merchandisers. They will show you some of the work we did before.
Yes, we obtained our first process certification in 2015, which included GMP, HACCP and ISO 22000. To this date the company maintains these standards with continuous improvements and is subjected to annual audits from certification agencies.
In 2018, the company went a step further from ISO 22000, and obtained GFSI recognised FSSC 22000 certification in order to add more value and trust to our international transactions. The company partnered with the leading Norwegian certification agency DNV-GL in order to obtain the certification.
Feel free to ask our merchandizers for a scanned copy of our certificates!
We have a written & implemented customer complaint handling procedure. As per the procedure (Which also fulfils the requirements of safety systems we have placed), we gather information, perform root cause analysis, offer and execute solutions and follow up with the customers. If it’s a quality related issue, our Quality Assurance department will be in direct touch with the customers. We also have a proper back tracing system in place to track down the product in each step of the supply chain.
Yes, we do. Our quality assurance division have developed documented product recall procedures as per requirements of FSSC 22000 certification system. The procedure is tested by mock recalls annually and undergoes continuous improvements each year.
Feel free to ask our merchandizers for a pdf version of the recall plan!
